Ocarina Fingerings

Ocarina of Time songs, played on a real ocarina

The five buttons in the game are five notes: D, F, A, B and high D. Learn these five fingerings on a 12-hole Alto C ocarina and you can play all 12 songs. In the 2026 Nintendo Switch 2 remake, the console microphone hears a real ocarina played this way and Link plays the song in the game.

The five fingerings

These match the fingering guide Nintendo published on the official remake site. A Soprano C ocarina uses the same fingerings and sounds an octave higher. STL Ocarina sells the Alto C size as "Tenor C". The drawing shows the top of the ocarina as you hold it; the two holes outside the body are the thumb holes on the back. Both small sub-holes stay open for all five notes.
